Kansas City Horror Club Special Event

KANSAS CITY HORROR FANS! We need you! Check out this super sweet special event just for you guys! This is a one time showing and seats are limited! Click here for ten dollar tickets.

It’s known as the Jersey Devil, the winged beast spawned 400 years ago by Satan himself. Some say this creature still inhabits the dense pine forests of southern New Jersey, where Richard Vineyard (Stephen Moyer, “True Blood”) takes his family for a rustic weekend camping trip. As the Vineyard family ventures further into the woods in search of the perfect campsite, Richard teeters on the edge of sanity. And it seems that the blood-crazed demon called the Jersey Devil may no longer be just a myth. Mia Kirshner (“The Vampire Diaries”), Erik Knudsen (Scream 4) and Allie MacDonald (House At The End Of The Street) co-star in this twisted chiller from writer/director Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II-IV) about a new kind of horror that lives– and kills – in a place called The Barrens

Special Effects Makeup Intensive starting June 11!!

This June, the Kansas City Horror Club will be hosting a series of seminars at the Westport Coffeehouse Theater taught by special effects makeup artist Micah Williams, a graduate of the Tom Savini School of Special Effects.

I spent many hours in the chair with Micah. He's amazing!
This series will take you through the entire process of creating latex appliances, and will give you all the information you need to create your own makeup effects (i.e. materials lists, and a list of links to shop online), and you'll be able to watch practical demonstrations of each part of the process, and learn tricks of the trade that you won't find anywhere else! This is how the pro's do it!

We'll be offering this series for the incredibly low cost of $30 for all three seminars! Class size is limited, so reserve your seat ASAP!!

Five friends go to a remote cabin in the woods. Bad things happen. If you think you know this story, think again. From fan favorites Joss Whedon and Drew Goddard comes The Cabin in the Woods, a mind blowing horror film that turns the genre inside out. -- (C) Lionsgate

The Hunger Games

March 25, 2012 at the Cinemark Merriam. We will meet in the theater lobby at 4:00 PM for the 4:50 PM showing. Remember it is only $4.00. Bring your teens - they probably read the books. Even though this film is not strictly horror genre there are horrific elements to the story. Plus if you are planning on going to KICK ME: The Flesh and Blood Show at the Screenland Crossroads on 3/24/12 you will get a chance to see Battle Royale. After seeing Battle Royale you can compare it to The Hunger Games which has a similar story line.
Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the evil Capitol of the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. A twisted punishment for a past uprising and an ongoing government intimidation tactic, The Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. -- (C) Lionsgate

Leprechaun - Friends star Jennifer Aniston made her film debut in this horror story about a psychotic, six-centuries-old leprechaun on a murder spree throughout North Dakota. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
Leprechaun in the Hood - Everyone's favorite bloodthirsty Irish gnome invades the world of hip-hop in the fifth film in the Leprechaun series. Stray Bullet, Butch, and Postmaster P are three young rappers trying to raise money for their first record. They break into the studio of powerful producer Mack Daddy (Ice-T), hoping to steal something salable or do some recording. Instead, they discover the secret behind Mack Daddy's multi-platinum success: a magic flute. The rappers take the flute with them, and their careers take a dramatic upswing; but Mack Daddy wants the flute back, and he has reinforcements: the Leprechaun (Warwick Davis), who has an agreement with Mack Daddy and isn't happy when people cross him. Leprechaun in the Hood was directed by Brian Trenchard-Smith, who also directed the third and fourth Leprechaun films. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi
